The challenge

What needed to change

Olney Theatre Center wanted to explore how its renovated spaces could generate additional revenue through rentals and educational programming while protecting its core mission of producing live theatre.

My contribution

Responsibilities

  • Collected and organized competitor, venue-rental, education-program, and industry information.
  • Reviewed internal event and program records with the team to identify usage patterns and gaps.
  • Helped translate the analysis into pricing, marketing, and program recommendations.
  • Co-presented the final recommendations to Olney Theatre Center leadership.

The system

Approach and decisions

  1. Compared venue capacities, pricing, rental frequency, and competitor offerings.
  2. Reviewed existing theatre spaces and programming constraints before proposing new uses.
  3. Separated rental opportunities from education-program recommendations.
  4. Sequenced immediate pricing work, pilot programs, and longer-term targeted marketing.

The result

Outcome

The team delivered data-backed rental and education recommendations, identified underused spaces and programming gaps, and provided an implementation sequence for pricing, pilot programs, school partnerships, and audience-specific marketing.
