The challenge

What needed to change

The competition asked teams to select a publicly listed automaker for a three-to-five-year investment horizon using financial and sustainability performance.

My contribution

Responsibilities

  • Led a five-person team through research, synthesis, and presentation preparation.
  • Helped compare Tesla, BYD, Toyota, and broader automotive-industry pressures.
  • Organized financial, competitive, sustainability, and market evidence into a recommendation.
  • Presented the recommendation to an audience of peers and professionals.

The system

Approach and decisions

  1. Used the competition brief to frame the investment horizon and evaluation criteria.
  2. Compared operating performance, cash and debt position, revenue growth, competition, and market barriers.
  3. Connected quantitative research with sustainability and industry-transition considerations.
  4. Structured the presentation around a clear recommendation and supporting risks.

The result

Outcome

The team recommended Tesla and earned second place among approximately 20 teams. The project strengthened Alyssa’s experience leading research under a deadline and presenting a defensible recommendation.
